Then Balance does the bookkeeping
Every transaction lands in a category and an account. Balance builds monthly charts, spots recurring payments, reminds you before bills are due and keeps a running net worth across your accounts. When you overspend, Roast Mode can tell you so with a joke rather than a lecture.
Who the Balance app is for
Anyone who wants to know where their salary goes without handing a fintech app their bank login: students on a tight allowance, salaried people planning around payday, freelancers with uneven income, and anyone who's tried a spreadsheet and given up on it.
Everything you own, in one place
Add as many bank accounts, credit cards, wallets and cash pockets as you have. Each transaction updates the right one, so your available balance and net worth stay current without a spreadsheet.
Bills you won't miss
Rent, EMIs, phone recharges, streaming subscriptions: add them once and Balance reminds you before each is due. It also spots recurring debits you forgot about.
A plan for payday
Tell Balance your salary and fixed expenses, set a monthly budget, and see how much is left to spend each day. Ask the built-in assistant questions like "how much did I spend on food this month?"
How budgeting works in Balance
- Set one monthly spending limit in seconds
- See how much you've spent against it on the dashboard
- Every logged or captured expense counts automatically
- Compare each month with the last in Analytics
Not sure what your budget should be?
Start with our free calculators: the 50/30/20 rule or a simple monthly budget planner. Then put the number into Balance and track against it.
Frequently asked questions
Who makes the Balance expense tracker?
Balance is made by Clarzen, a small independent team in India. On Google Play it's listed as "Balance - Expense Tracker" by Clarzen, and its official website is balanceapp.in.
Is Balance free?
Yes. Balance is free to download and use, with no ads. Everyday tracking — adding expenses, automatic capture, bills and subscriptions, accounts and CSV export — is free, and it isn't a trial that runs out.
There are several apps called Balance. How do I get the right one?
Check the developer name under the app title on Google Play: it should say Clarzen. The package name in the Play Store link is com.balanceapp.app. The safest route is the Google Play button on balanceapp.in, which always opens the right listing.
Does Balance read my SMS?
Only if you turn on automatic capture (Android). Balance then reads bank transaction alerts on your phone and ignores personal messages, OTPs and promotions. The full message text never leaves your device; only the amount, merchant, date and account are saved. You can turn it off anytime, and the app works fully without it.
Does it work offline?
Balance is offline-first — you can capture expenses without a connection and they sync automatically once you're back online. It does use a free account so your data stays backed up and available across devices.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export everything to CSV at any time, and you can delete your account and all backups from within the app.
Does Balance connect to my bank?
No. Balance never asks for a bank login or net-banking credentials, and it never links to your bank account. You add transactions by scanning a receipt or payment screenshot, entering them manually, or, on Android, letting Balance pick them up from bank SMS alerts if you turn that on.
Which platforms is Balance available on?
Balance is available on Android today. An iOS version is coming soon. It's a mobile app rather than a web dashboard.
