How to use the Balance app: a getting-started guide
Balance takes about five minutes to set up. Here's the order we recommend, from install to your first monthly report.

Install Balance
Get "Balance - Expense Tracker" by Clarzen from Google Play and sign up free with Google or email.

Check your currency
Balance picks your currency from your phone's region. Change it in Settings if you need to.

Add your accounts
Add your bank accounts, cards, cash and wallets with their current balances so your net worth is right from day one.

Choose how to capture
On Android, turn on SMS or notification capture to log bank alerts automatically, or skip it and scan or type expenses.

Log your first expenses
Scan a receipt or payment screenshot, or tap + and enter an amount and category.

Add bills and subscriptions
Add rent, EMIs and subscriptions so Balance reminds you before they're due.

Set a monthly budget
Give yourself a monthly limit and check it on the dashboard.

Review at month end
Open Analytics to see spending by category, merchant and account, and compare with last month.

Frequently asked questions
How do I change my currency in Balance?
Open Settings and choose Currency. Balance supports 140+ currencies and sets one automatically from your phone's region when you first sign up.
Why aren't my bank SMS being captured?
Check that SMS capture is turned on in Balance's settings and that SMS permission is allowed in Android settings. Automatic capture currently understands Indian bank messages best. Other countries are being added, and you can always scan or add expenses manually.
Can I export my data?
Yes. You can export everything to CSV at any time, and you can delete your account and all backups from within the app.
Does it work offline?
Balance is offline-first — you can capture expenses without a connection and they sync automatically once you're back online. It does use a free account so your data stays backed up and available across devices.
