Can an AI tell me where my money goes?
Yes, if it has your transactions. An AI assistant inside a budgeting app can answer plain questions like "how much did I spend on food last month?" or "what bills are coming up?" in seconds, without you opening a single chart.
What it can't do is know about spending you never recorded, so the answers are only as complete as your tracking.

Balance - Expense Tracker by Clarzen on Google Play
What AI assistants are good at
- Quick totals: "How much did I spend this month?"
- Category and merchant questions: "How much did I spend on coffee last month?"
- Comparisons: "Did I spend more on food this month than last month?"
- Finding things: "What was my biggest expense this week?"
- Looking ahead: "What bills are coming up?"
Where they fall short
- Spending you didn't record, such as cash or a card you haven't added.
- Judgement calls about your life, like whether a purchase was worth it.
- Personal financial advice. Treat an assistant as a fast calculator, not an adviser.
General chatbots vs an assistant in your app
A general chatbot only knows what you paste into it, which means uploading statements full of personal details. An assistant built into a budgeting app already has your records and can calculate the answer directly, so you share much less.
How Ask Balance works
In Balance, tap Ask Balance and type or say your question. Only the words of your question are sent to an AI provider to understand what you mean. Your amounts, transactions and balances aren't. Balance then works out the figure from your own records and shows it with a short summary, and can read the answer aloud. If a word is misheard, it shows what it understood so you can tell.
Frequently asked questions
Is it safe to let AI see my finances?
It depends on what's shared. Prefer assistants that send only your question to the AI and calculate answers from your data themselves, rather than uploading your full history.
Can I ask by voice?
In Balance, yes. Your phone's own speech service turns your voice into text, then the question is answered the same way as a typed one.
Does Balance connect to my bank?
No. Balance never asks for a bank login or net-banking credentials, and it never links to your bank account. You add transactions by scanning a receipt or payment screenshot, entering them manually, or, on Android, letting Balance pick them up from bank SMS alerts if you turn that on.
