A free UK expense tracker for pounds, direct debits and everything in between

UK spending is mostly contactless taps and direct debits, which makes it easy to lose track of. Balance gives you one place to log both, in pounds, without connecting your bank through Open Banking.

It's free with no ads, it picks up your currency automatically, and Roast Mode will let you know when the Friday takeaways start to add up.

Built around how the UK pays

  • Contactless card and phone payments, logged by scanning the receipt
  • Direct debits and standing orders set up as recurring bills with reminders
  • Monzo, Revolut or high-street bank payments logged from a screenshot or by hand
  • Cash spends added in two taps

Plan around council tax, energy and the rest of the fixed bills

For most UK households the biggest monthly costs are fixed: rent or mortgage, council tax, energy, broadband and phone. Add them once as fixed expenses and Balance shows what's genuinely left to spend after payday.

Council tax is often paid over 10 months, leaving two months without it. Tracking it as a bill makes those months easier to plan, so the extra breathing room goes to savings instead of disappearing.

Your currency, set up for you

Balance sets your home currency from your phone's region the first time you open it, so in the UK amounts appear in pound sterlings (GBP) with the right formatting. If you move or prefer another currency, you can switch to any of 140+ in settings.

Frequently asked questions

Does Balance use Open Banking?

No. Balance never asks you to connect a bank account. You scan receipts or add spends yourself, which keeps your bank credentials and full transaction history private.

Can I track direct debits in Balance?

Yes. Add each direct debit as a recurring bill or subscription and Balance reminds you before it's due and includes it in your monthly picture.

Is Balance free?

Yes. Balance is free to download and use, with no ads. Everyday tracking — adding expenses, automatic capture, bills and subscriptions, accounts and CSV export — is free, and it isn't a trial that runs out.

Which platforms is Balance available on?

Balance is available on Android today. An iOS version is coming soon. It's a mobile app rather than a web dashboard.
